Bryan Ferry might've been recognized as a better songwriter had he not had the misfortune of being dropped in the wake of disco.
Of course, Bryan's career extends, with Roxy Music, way back before and through the height of disco (and ska and punk, in the UK). But you're right that his solo work had a problem fitting into post-disco sensibilities on pop radio in the 80s.
