Pass the Damn Bill!

The only thing worth doing on Facebook today. Seriously.

If you had your preference, would you rather have the Senate bill passed (without changes or in whatever form it can be pushed through reconciliation) or would you rather have the Senate take the nuclear option and pass a more comprehensive bill with a simple majority and put things back on course with the House?

If I had my true preference, much of the past eight months would have gone differently. But out of the options you gave me, I'd choose the former, though I'm in complete agreement with those who argue that the House bill is superior on several merits (most particularly, the House bill's reliance upon a surtax as opposed to the Senate's reliance upon excise taxes on expensive insurance plans). We're (the "we" being liberals/progressives/socialists/whomever) at the point where the only currently viable body for advancing at least a few of our ideas--the Democrats--is carrying an albatross around its neck, and there are people in the White House who apparently just want the party to forget about it for a while. In that environment, dragging it out, making an even bigger political and legislative deal out of it that it has already become, is counterproductive to our hopes and aims. I think they've gone as far as they can go, and they've made it as good as it's going to get, at least in the current political environment. Pass the bill, and move on.

The bill is a misbegotten piece of corrupt garbage. It doesn't deserve to die. It needs to be stomped to death. The stomping will occur in November at the ballot box where the leftists will be run out of office the tried and true American way!

From today's report in The Hill, it sounds like there's no clear path forward now and the White House is showing no leadership.
