Institutionalized faith is by its very nature not reasonable, cannot be, would be hopelessly contradictory if it were - and I'm sure Weisberg finding fault with Mormonism because of its newness is about that central absurdity: I understand and in some way accept the irrational nature of old religions because, well, they're old - what am I gonna do, argue with Catholics that the Pope isn't the Vicar of Christ?; but to go to the bother to invent a new religion founded on yet more irrational claims and to do so in a time of advancing rationalism in a country defined by rationalism - well, that's much harder to take seriously and causes one to view with extreme scepticism the motivations behind such a desire.<BR/><BR/>  <BR/><BR/><A></A><A></A>Posted by<A><B> </B></A><A HREF="http://inmedias.blogspot.com/2007/01/on-mitt-and-mormonism.html" REL="nofollow" TITLE="goatboy at isis dot com">Credo</A>Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
